Vania Budianto

Vania Budianto, PhD is the PAIR Program Manager at the Australia-Indonesia Centre, where she manages the end-to-end delivery of the Partnership for Australia-Indonesia Research (PAIR) Sulawesi program, funded by the governments of Australia and Indonesia. The program focuses on bringing research to policy, aligning with her passion and interest in bridging the research-policy gap.

Vania brings over a decade of expertise in international development, with a specialisation in Indonesian social protection and poverty reduction. She holds a Ph.D. from the Crawford School of Public Policy at The Australian National University, completed in 2025, where her research focused on the politics of policy-making processes in Indonesia’s social assistance programs. She also holds a Master’s degree in Applied Anthropology and Participatory Development from The Australian National University.

Prior to her current role, Vania was a Senior Program Manager at the Australian Embassy Jakarta (2014-2020), managing bilateral programs in social protection and poverty reduction. Her experience also includes research consultancy work focusing on social protection, GEDSI (gender equality, disability and social inclusion), and governance in Indonesia.

Vania is based in Melbourne, Victoria.
