Jana Hertz

Knowledge Sector Initiative
Jana Hertz is the Team Leader for the Knowledge Sector Initiative (KSI); a partnership between the Government of Australia and the Government of Indonesia focused on promoting evidence-based policy in Indonesia. Previously Ms. Hertz was the Senior Policy and Governance Manager at RTI International where she managed a large governance portfolio and provided strategic direction on governance and civic engagement. She has also published on key governance issues such as local capacity development and social accountability. Most recently she co-edited the book, Governance and Service delivery: The Practical Application of Social Accountability Across Sectors for RTI Press.
Previously Ms. Hertz was the Deputy Chief of Party for the Kinerja governance and public service delivery program in Indonesia. She designed the public service delivery model in the Kinerja program documents and provided technical direction and oversight for the extensive field operations. Prior to joining RTI, she was the Deputy Program Manager for the World Bank’s Decentralisation Support Facility. There she managed the development and implementation of complex decentralisation work plans addressing issues of fiscal decentralisation, public service delivery, governance reform, planning, and performance measurement with the Ministry of Home Affairs, National Development Planning Agency, Ministry of Finance, three multilateral and six bilateral development partners.
Ms. Hertz has over 20 years of experience working in Indonesia on knowledge-to-policy, public service delivery, social accountability, civil society strengthening, and decentralisation. She has developed strong relationships with multiple donors and stakeholders at local and national government levels.
