Dr William Sabandar

Dr. William Sabandar is the Chief of the Accelerated Development of Renewable Energy Task Force, having been appointed by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources of the Republic of Indonesia.
Prior to this position, Dr. Sabandar was appointed by the President of the Republic of Indonesia as the Deputy for Operations of REDD+ Agency, Chief Assistant to the Head of the Indonesian President’s Delivery Unit for Development Monitoring and Oversight (UKP4) and the Chief Operating Officer of the National Task Force on REDD+.
Under Dr. Kuntoro Mangkusubroto’s leadership and capacity as the Head of National Committee of the Post-2015 Development Planning, Dr. Sabandar was one of the lead negotiators for the UN High-Level Panel on the Post-2015 Development Agenda. He was the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of ASEAN for Post-Nargis Recovery in Myanmar and the Head ASEAN Humanitarian Task Force Operation after Cyclone Nargis devastated the country in 2008. He helped establish the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance (AHA Centre) in Jakarta. He was also ASEAN’s Director for Corporate Affairs. He served the Indonesian Agency for Post-Tsunami Reconstruction of Aceh and Nias (BRR Aceh-Nias), as the Chief of Nias Recovery, in charge to coordinate the post-tsunami and earthquake reconstruction that destroyed Nias Islands in 2004 and 2005.
He gained his PhD in Geography from the University of Canterbury New Zealand (2004) and Master of Engineering from the University of New South Wales, Australia (1999). From 1991 to 2001, he has managed various development projects in Indonesia.
