Dr Muhammad Dimyati

Dr. Muhammad Dimyati is the Director General at the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education, leading the Directorate General of Strengthening for Research and Development since June 2015. He was previously the Deputy for Science and Technology Resources at the same ministry from 2014 to 2015.

Prior to joining the current office, he served the Ministry of Public Housing from 2001 to 2014, with latest position as Deputy Director for Organization and Budget Planning. Before that, he built his career at the Ministry of Public Works from 2001 to 2010.

He obtained his Bachelor degree in 1982 from Faculty of Geography, Gadjah Mada University (UGM), Yogyakarta, Indonesia. He obtained his Masters degree in Agriculture in 1990 and doctoral degree in Agriculture in 1997 from Kyoto University, He has been spearheading research policy reform and leading inter-ministerial deliberations to alleviate barriers in research policy in order to enlarging research outputs and productivity.

Among ongoing reforms that being discussed are simplifying research budgeting and reporting policy and adding a new section on research to the existing procurement regulation. Another policy that he led is formulation of the National Research Grand Design (RIRN, Rencana Induk Riset Nasional) – a 5-year and 20-year national plan on research. The RIRN will be finalized in June 2016 and submitted to the President for signing.
