Dr Emily Payne is a research fellow within the Department of Civil Engineering, Monash University.

She completed her PhD in 2013 investigating the influence of plant species on nitrogen removal within stormwater biofilters. Since then Emily has been working in the research areas of green water treatment technologies and urban water management, with a particular focus on the use of plants for water treatment.

Her work has included updating the Stormwater Biofiltration Guidelines, contributing to vegetation selection guidelines for biofilters in the south-west of Western Australia, and a literature review of constructed stormwater wetland performance. Emily’s experience also includes four years working at the consulting firm Sinclair Knight Merz, in the areas of catchment planning, hydrological modelling and contaminated land management.
