Chitra Retna has more than 25 years of experience in research, program design and advocacy. She is working with the AIC on its next Partnership for Australia-Indonesia Research (PAIR) program.

Her previous roles include founder and executive director of think tank Article 33 Indonesia. She has also served as Asia Pacific Senior Regional Associate of Revenue Watch Institute, Deputy Chief of Party of USAID BIJAK, and Technical Lead for USAID SEGAR. She has vast experience in consulting with international and national and government organisations.

Chitra Retna has co-authored several books and peer-reviewed journal articles, authored and co-authored working papers and other research reports with a focus on natural resource, education, poverty and gender issues.

She has an undergraduate degree in Environmental Engineering from Bandung Institute of Technology, a Master of Arts in economic and public policy from University Indonesia, previous PhD candidate from Australia National University and currently PhD candidate from University of Padjajaran Bandung.
