Boyd Whalan

Boyd Whalan is the Executive Director of the Australia-Indonesia Centre, bringing more than 15 years of international policy, trade and investment leadership. He spent 10 years living and working in Indonesia and is fluent in Indonesian, including serving as an official interpreter for Australian Prime Ministers in meetings with Indonesian Presidents, ministers and senior officials.
Prior to joining the Centre, Boyd served as Queensland Trade and Investment Commissioner, leading business development initiatives and strengthening trade and investment relationships across Indonesia. Earlier, as Vice President of Strategic Partnerships at Bukalapak, he led the company’s expansion into Australia and established its Melbourne office.
Boyd began his career at Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, completing postings in Beijing and Jakarta and serving as a foreign policy officer in Canberra. He has built a wide network across government, industry, academia and civil society in both countries.
Boyd holds a Masters in International Management and a Bachelor of Arts (Chinese Studies and Political Economy) from the University of Sydney.
