Anna McNicol
Acting Minister Counsellor (Economic, Investment and Infrastructure)

Anna McNicol commenced as Acting Minister-Counsellor (Economic, Investment and Infrastructure) at the Australian Embassy in Jakarta in March 2021.
Prior to this, Anna worked as Counsellor (Economic Governance and Infrastructure), since July 2018. In the Counsellor role, Anna had responsibility for two of Australia’s key development assistance programs in Indonesia, the Australia Indonesia Partnership for Economic Development (Prospera) and the Indonesia Australia Partnership for Infrastructure (KIAT). In addition, she oversaw Australia’s investments with multilateral partners and other stakeholders in the economic governance and infrastructure sectors in Indonesia.
Anna joined DFAT in 2013, having previously worked for the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID). Prior to working in her current role, Anna was Director (Human Development) Indonesia. Anna also has extensive experience working on Australia’s bilateral relationship with the Pacific, including on labour mobility, infrastructure and private sector development.
Anna has previously served overseas in the Solomon Islands, both under the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon and Islands (RAMSI) and the Australian High Commission. Anna’s key area of focus in the Solomon Islands was supporting Australia’s work on economic reform.
Anna holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Adelaide.
