Her praxis repositions design as a strategic tool for challenging gender inequity and gender-neutral urban policy. Her recent research has focused on public transport spaces for women and girls, gender-sensitive CPTED, the strategic use of women’s safety audits, and the engaging diverse stakeholders in participatory co-design.

Kalms is author of ‘Hypersexual City” (Routledge, 2017), co-editor of “Contentious Cities (Routledge, 2021) and the forthcoming handbook “SheCity” (Bloomsbury, 2022).
