Mr Brazier is a senior career officer in the Australian Public Service and was recently Deputy Secretary, Development, Multilateral Group and Europe, DFAT. He has previously served overseas as High Commissioner to Solomon Islands (2016-2019); Country Representative, The Asia Foundation, Cambodia (2006-2009); Deputy Country Representative, The Asia Foundation, Indonesia and Malaysia (2003-2006); and Director Economic Reform Programs, The Asia Foundation, Indonesia (1999-2003).
In Canberra, he has served as First Assistant Secretary, International Division, Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (2020-2022); Deputy Director-General, Office of National Assessments (2014-2016); First Assistant Secretary, East Asia Division, DFAT (2012-2014); Assistant Director General, Indonesia and East Timor Branch, AusAID (2011-2012); and Senior Indonesia Analyst, ONA (2009-2011).
Mr Brazier holds a Master of Arts, Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University (2005) and a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) (Asian Studies), Griffith University (1992).
Mr Brazier speaks Indonesian. In 1990 he spent six months at Universitas Hasanuddin, Makassar, and lived with an Indonesian family.
