Indonesian design team ETU have arrived in Melbourne ahead of their runway debut at the Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival, meeting some VIPs along the way.
Restu Anggriani, the ETU team, and representatives of the Australia-Indonesia Centre met with the Hon. Julie Bishop MP, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, her partner David Panton, and Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival chair Laura Anderson backstage at the opening event of the festival.
ETU are in final preparations to present their new Fall/Winter 2016 collection ‘La Voyageuse’. A press release describes the collection in terms of modest, innovative Muslim fashion branching out into the world:
“The collection tells a story about the generation of educated, savvy young Muslims across the world who are quantifiably different in their world views; in their openness to the world, the way they wear their faith proudly, in their knowledge and intellect, their ambition and hunger for success, and in their critical, challenging nature.
“La Voyageuse conveys a dual meaning of ETU physically going places and globally traveled to spread the beauty of Islam through fashion, while also expressing how universal ETU designs to the world regardless of its religion and nation. The collection also promises ETU’s exciting innovation on modest fashion world that offers Toray’s proprietary hi-tech material, Ultrasuede; a global leader of cutting-edge fiber technologies.
“Since our beginnings as a brand, ETU commitment to sustainability is defined by creating products responsibly. ETU focuses on fabrics innovation to make modern basics for sustainable future. ETU aims to reshaping the future of modest fashion industry by incorporating technology and trendsetting the use of innovative fabrics.
“Because, ETU believes that ‘sustainable future can only be achieved by innovation’.”
The ‘La Voyageuse’ collection will hit the runways of the Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival on Thursday 10 March, 2016 at the Royal Exhibition Buildings.
