Applications open for Australia-Indonesia Fashion Exchange

Applications are now open for the Australia-Indonesia Fashion Exchange, where Australian designers can win $10,000, a show at Jakarta Fashion Week, and connections to industry and media.

The initiative was launched in 2014 and is facilitated by The Australia-Indonesia Centre, connecting the Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival and Jakarta Fashion Week. The program aims to showcase the work of emerging talents in the industry and enable access to international markets and opportunities.

Australia and Indonesia are well positioned to collaborate and capture regional trade opportunities in fashion by combining respective competitive advantages. The recipients of the past three Australia-Indonesia Fashion Exchange awards have made beneficial inroads towards strengthening business opportunities, gained media coverage, and promoted the growth of shared prosperity between the two nations.

The prize consists of a runway show at Jakarta Fashion Week (22-28 October 2016), a AUD$10,000 bursary to cover travel and accommodation, and the facilitation of meetings and networking opportunities with industry and media in Indonesia.

The successful applicant must demonstrate innovation and excellence in design, availability of collections for commercial sale at retail for at least 18 months, a financially sustainable business plan, suitability to the Indonesian market, and availability to travel to Jakarta between 17-26 October 2016.

Past winners include:

  • ETU, Indonesia (VAMFF, March 2016)
  • Pageant, Australia (JFW, October 2015)
  • Patrick Owen, Indonesia (VAMFF, March 2015)
