Foresighting

The Australia-Indonesia Centre initiated a foresighting project to assist the planning of Agriculture and Food, Health and Medicine, Energy and Infrastructure Research Clusters.

Foresighting is a process which helps decision-makers anticipate forthcoming change, and plan accordingly. The method identifies potential ‘megatrends’ and ‘megashocks’, as well as working with stakeholders to envision preferred and plausible scenarios of the future, which can help highlight critical thinking and actions needed today to steer development towards a desired outcome.

Unlike other foresighting exercises, this project focused on issues of mutual interest to Indonesia and Australia and aimed to identify overlapping research priorities. The project used participatory methods with AIC partners to establish a forward looking approach to enable researchers to build an overall vision for future research as well as identified research priorities and synergies.
