Applications open for Indonesian language and culture study Hamer Scholarships

The 2017 round of Hamer Scholarships for in-country Asian language and culture study have opened.

The Victorian government offers annual scholarships to study language and culture in China, Japan, Korea, and Indonesia. The scholarship aims to “improve language skills and cultural understanding; develop business and people-to-people networks; and contribute to Victoria’s international engagement”.

The Indonesian scholarship offers $10,000 to study for a minimum of one sememster, or 5-6 months, at one of the following universities:

  • University of Indonesia (UI – Jakarta)
  • Gadjah Mada University (UGM – Yogyakarta)
  • Indonesia University of Education or Pendidikan University (UPI – Bandung).

Applicants for the Indonesia program should note that additional tutoring or extra class time will be required in addition to university class time to complete the prescribed 15-20 hours of study time per week.

To be eligible, applicants must be Victorians, aged 21 or above, who are Australian citizens or permanent residents.  The scholarships are primarily aimed at those involved in the public, private, not-for-profit and creative and academic industries. Victorians already living and working in Indonesia may also be considered.
